Andrew Hyde was a Revolutionary
War veteran and a weaver by trade. In 1821 he and his daughter, Rebecca,
drove two wagons from Pittsfield, Massachusetts to Marion County, Ohio,
where they settled.
This chest was brought to Ohio by the Hydes. It
contains a red, white, and blue coverlet woven by Andrew Hyde and two quilts
dating to c. 1840-1860: a blue and white rendering of the “Ohio
Star” and a multi-colored quilt made in the “Saw Tooth”
pattern. |
