This log home originally stood six miles west of the Marion County Fairgrounds on Seiter Road in Big Island Township. The Carl Seiter family donated it to The Marion County Historical Society in 1978. The cabin was constructed in 1851. The logs came from the farm but the ceiling joists and flooring were purchased from a mill. Later, the cabin was surrounded with several additional rooms. Two layers of siding and three roofs had to be removed before the logs could be numbered and labeled. Several tons of plaster and lath were also removed by a team of Ridgedale High School students and several adult advisors. Dismantled on original site - 1978-1979. Moved to Fairgrounds - 1979-1980. Roofing began January 8, 1980. Building chinked in 1981. The porch was added in 1982. |

| During the Marion County Fair, the cabin is open to the public and serves as MCHS headquarters. The rest of the year, it is open by appointment only and is used as a demonstration site where students learn about life in early Ohio, European immigration to Marion County, pioneer plant use and 18th and 19th century gardening techniques. | ||||
