Voices of the Presidential Election of 1920
Warren
Gamaliel Harding (1865-1923)
Republican Candidate for President, 1920
|

Harding decided
to stage a "front porch" campaign, similar to that of another Ohioan, William
McKinley. While Warren and Florence Harding met the public on the front
porch of their Marion home, reporters were accommodated in a small, specially-constructed
building in their back
yard. Here, the future President (with one foot on step)
meets with the press on the press house porch. |

Popular entertainer
Al Jolson wrote the official Republican campaign song, "Harding, You're
the Man for Us." He visited Marion in July, 1920. In this photo, Warren
Harding looks on as Jolson, with arm upraised, performs at the Hardings'
home. |
