A THEATRE HISTORY OF MARION, OHIO – JOHN EBERSON’S PALACE & BEYOND
By Scott L. Hoffman
Published 2014, Softbound, Illustrated, 174 pp.
One of the last remaining atmospheric theatres in the nation, the elegant Marion Palace Theatre holds a storied history behind its curtains. Designed by renowned theatre architect John Eberson, the Palace opened its doors in 1928 to packed audiences of over three thousand persons. Over the years it has hosted national touring acts, vaudeville groups, movies, local theatre performances, and hundreds of other events both large and small. Among the little known facts revealed in the book are the behind the scenes information on its construction, forgotten stories of police gambling raids, and the stars who performed there.
Also included are histories of many other Marion entertainment venues such as the Nickelodeon, the Wigwam, Germania Park Hall, Grand Opera House, Dreamland, Wonderland and the Orpheum just to name a few.
