by Terry Rowland

Published 2008, Illustrated, Softbound, 53 pp.

Author Terry Rowland shares the story of his great- grandparents Harry and Alice Bill, a blind couple who were determined to be self-sufficient and were able to do so. Harry lost his sight as the result of a fireworks accident while Alice lost her sight due to damage at birth.  Despite these impediments, they not only managed to raise a family but also inspire a community.

From making brooms to running a neighborhood grocery, the Bills demonstrated that effort can often overcome problems which may seem insurmountable. Also included is a history of broom making and an illustrated guide on how to make a broom using vintage     equipment.
