What began as research for a presentation on one-room schools in Marion County eventually led Donna Lawrence on a quest to research the history of schools throughout the county. Lawrence, a public school teacher for more than 25 years, took her deep love and respect for education and used it as the basis for her very popular book that became a favorite of educators and historians alike.

Beginning with a brief chronological history of significant events relating to schools in Marion County, There’s No School provides a comprehensive review of the schools of each township in the county. Information on the school buildings, locations, and  vignettes relating to teachers and students are supplemented by vintage and current photographs. Other topics include the Boxwell Examinations, the centralization of schools, and a timeline history of Marion City Schools.
