Kensel Clutter is a veteran who flew as the co-pilot in a B-24 bomber in the Pacific theatre of action during World War II. He participated in some of the most daring air raids over the Pacific Islands, including the longest bombing raid ever attempted at the time. He survived an emergency parachute jump, despite never having jumped before, from a disabled plane in which three soldiers perished. He was later injured in an air battle and spent several months recovering before returning to duty.
During 1943, Kensel kept a daily diary in which he recorded his activities, thoughts, hopes, and fears. Many years later, he wrote an account of his military experiences to be shared with his family. It covered the time from when he enlisted until his discharge from military service 45 months later. He also took many photos, which are now preserved in a family photo album.
He shared his diary, personal war-time history, and photos to help to preserve and share the history of those who served as part of “The Greatest Generation.”
“My World War II Memories” contains a complete transcription of his diary entries, the personal history he wrote for his family, and numerous photographs of his military experiences in a 150-page publication.
