The War of 1812: The Role of the Area Known As Marion County,Ohio

Beginning with a summary of the War of 1812 from a national perspective and continuing with reviews on Ohio’s role as well as Marion County’s role in “America’s Second War of Independence”. Although Marion County did not officially exist in 1812, events were certainly taking place in the area that were impacted by the war. Among these were the impact of the Greenville Treaty Line, the use of war roads throughout the region, the building of Fort Morrow, and an infamous military action that became known as Drake’s Folly. Information is also shared on prominent early settlers, 1812-era cemeteries, and historical markers commemorating activities from the war era.
